Climate Capital: What made you want to solve this problem?
Chris: I found out about the true costs of factory farming - responsible for over 15% of GHG's, is the leading cause of deforestation & destruction of natural habitats. We need better ways to eat, which requires better products that properly emulate the sensory experience of meat, match on price, and addresses new categories; whole cuts are estimated to be 65% of the meat market.
Climate Capital: What are you building?
Chris: New food production technology for creating affordable and authentic whole-cut meat alternatives, in an effort to allow for a transition to a lower carbon and kinder food system.
Climate Capital: What is next?
Chris: We spent 3 years in R&D exploring new technologies and developed our own proprietary method. We are now building out our pilot plant.
Climate Capital: How do you foster growth and career development for your employees?
Chris: A culture of innovation, respect, and ownership. We attract talent by committing to R&D, and creating an open & collaborative work environment - a place people want to spend their time.
Climate Capital: What are the key challenges as you scale your company?
Chris: This is our first manufacturing facility; we expect this will present a slew of challenges and surprises.
Climate Capital: What have you learned that you want to share with other founders?
Chris: This industry is incredibly collaborative and we need way more founders working on R&D-centric food solutions. There are many food-related startups, but few who are bringing new technologies to the stage.
Climate Capital: How can the broader climate community help you on your mission?
Chris: Send us talented, driven people!
